There is no doubt that Sarajevo is a city rich with culture, history and wonderful scenery. You will have no trouble finding new things to visit and explore while you’re there. But one of the definitely most amazing parts of travelling is trying the traditional food and getting to know the culture and local customs of the place you’re staying. So, using the best ranked places on TripAdvisor and some advice from the locals, we decided that we’re going to give you the ultimate guide to make your visit to Sarajevo as amazing as it could be.
If you are looking for a nice, “fancy” hotel, we recommend staying in hotel “Aziza”. Located at Saburina 2 address, very close the city center, it is the best ranked hotel on TripAdvisor. If you are looking for something more affordable, we recommend Hostel Franz Ferdinand. It is located on the Jelica 4 street, literally in the very heart of the city center. The decoration of the hostel is very creative, and if you are a lover of history, you will love it for sure.
Sarajevo has an absolutely amazing traditional cuisine. To be honest, wherever you go in the Old Town to grab a bite, it’s not going to be a mistake. However, there are some restaurants that are favored by both tourists and locals. Food is also very cheap in Bosnia compared to some other European countries. On TripAdvisor, some of the best ranked restaurants are: Apetit Restaurant, Klopa, Bon Appetit, Cakum Pakum. If you ask someone who lives in Sarajevo, they will for sure recommend you places like Željo Ćevabdžinica, Petica Ćevabžinica or Sač buregdžinica, which are all located on the streets of Baščaršija, the main area for tourists. Most of these restaurants also serve traditional Bosnian coffee. Also, if you are looking for a quick bite after a crazy night, make a stop to the small bakery called “Imaret”, right next to the Gazi-Husrev Bey Mosque (you can’t miss it). That bakery has been around forever, and it’s kind of legendary among the locals.
When it comes to nightlife, the city is very much alive, especially during summer. Go to the Zelenih Beretki Street, right next to the Hotel Europe (you can’t miss it), and you will find many pubs and bars. If you are a beer lover, definitely go to the Sarajevo Brewery to try some domestic Bosnian beer. Some of the most popular nightclubs are Silver and Smoke, for techno lovers, Kino Bosna for those who wanna hear Balkan folk music and Sloga for those that want a bit of everything.
Enjoy your stay.
