Sarajevo is a city with a large amount of impressive historical and cultural monuments. There is a lot of things to see and do. But, it’s quite clear that, like most other places in the world, only one part of the city is filled with these touristy, done-up sights. However, this city has so much more to offer. If you want to dig a little deeper and discover what life in Sarajevo truly looks like, make sure you visit some of the not-touristy, and yet interesting locations in Sarajevo.
Dolac Malta is a district in the municipality of Novo Sarajevo. It’s a geographical center of Sarajevo. Back in the days of the Ottoman rule, this area was used as a western entrance into the city and a customs control place. The word “malta” derived from German word “maut” which means customs duty. Even though it has nothing to do with customs anymore, the name remained.
The neighbourhood that we know today was mostly built during the Yugoslav period, which is obvious by its architecture.
It is a nice place to take a walk and take pictures. When you get tired, there are many excellent coffeehouses where you can rest.
