Perućica: Europe’s Last Jungle

Even though jungles are mostly associated with more tropical world regions, Bosnia also has one.

When people say that Bosnia’s nature is amazing, they really mean it.

Perućica is one of the last remaining primeval forests in Europe. It is located near the border with Montenegro, and is part of the Sutjeska National Park.

The tallest measured Norway Spruce (63 m) is located in this forest.

Perućica is probably one of the most preserved sites of nature in northern hemisphere, which is why it’s places on the UNSECO World Heritage Site

The wildlife is truly breathtaking. Some of the trees are even 300 years old, and there are many rare endemic species that live here.

However, Perućica is a rough landscape and it’s only recommended for experienced hikers and adventurers. Of course, you can only go into the forest in the company of a licensed ranger, never by yourself.

If you are a big nature lover and you love to hike and explore, Perućica might be a life-changing experience for you, so make sure you don’t miss out on it.
